Georgio, Eviction Prevention
When 3-year-old Georgio first came to Wellspring Family Services he knew only one way to express his anger: yelling, running around the classroom, knocking books off the shelves and throwing toys around. Other children in his neighborhood preschool were frightened of him and he wasn't learning at the same level as his classmates.
In our Morningsong Classrooms teachers and therapists worked with Georgio to help him learn a better way to express his feelings. They gave Georgio focused attention and supported his early development so he could learn to use words, rather than behavior, to express his feelings.
Georgio now knows that his feelings are okay and he's learned appropriate ways to express them. His classmates are not afraid of him and like playing with him.
The pilot project for this program began in our Morningsong Classrooms in 2009. We have now expanded this model for all preschool-age children in our new Cornerstone Classrooms.
