Sebrena Burr has been a long-time supporter, advocate, and friend of Wellspring Family Services.
For the past five years, Sebrena has made headlines and won awards for their commitment to helping children and families in King County. Sebrena is also a mother that models the importance of service to her daughter, Rena Mateja. Leading by example, they have helped raise more than $15,000 for our Kids Helping Kids program, which supports Wellspring services such as our Early Learning Center and the Baby Boutique!
Sebrena’s advocacy work at city, state and national policy levels is unparalleled. For years, she has given her leadership to Wellspring’s advocacy work in order to advance the safety, well-being, and stability of individuals and families through legislation. On a regular basis, she travels to Olympia and speaks to elected officials to further initiatives involving early learning and housing.
“Wellspring’s mission is my mission,” Sebrena says. “The honest, respectful culture present within the organization is welcoming to all and really aligns with my core values.”
Much of Sebrena’s personal focus also includes education, where she lives and breathes her mission of building healthy communities and individuals. In addition to her Wellspring work, Sebrena is involved with National, State and Local PTA/PTSA and was appointed as the Washington State Parent Teachers Association representative for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and for the State Board of Education Achievement & Accountability Workgroup. A strong voice and advocate in Seattle Public Schools, Sebrena has also served on the National Council of the States as a Washington State representative and on the Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, she is a respected member of the Southeast Seattle Education Coalition and the School Family Partnerships Coordinator at South Shore K-8 School in South Seattle.
For her dedicated advocacy and relentless commitment to Wellspring – and the larger community – we are extremely grateful to present Sebrena Burr with the Distinguished Service Award. Congratulations, Sebrena!
