Erika Flesher

MS, LMHC (she/her or they/them)

My approach to therapy is based in the belief that we have many of the resources we need within ourselves, but that sometimes life experiences can teach us to shut off parts of ourselves that enable us to be resilient and to have strong, supportive relationships.

Other times, the strategies that enabled us to cope or even thrive in a previous set of circumstances no longer work once our circumstances change. Sometimes the old coping skills can even create new problems because they do not fit who we have become or where we are in life.

I will work with you to establish a secure, therapeutic relationship in which we can explore what is contributing to your current challenges and uncover what strengths and supports will help you deal with them. My hope is that our work together will enable you to thrive as the person you want to be.

When working on parenting, I will collaborate with you to find an approach that takes into account the unique needs of the individual family members as well as the circumstances and dynamics of the family as a whole.

While therapy has traditionally focused on the individual, couple, or family, we all exist in larger social and historical contexts. These cultural dynamics can impact us deeply, for good and for ill. For example, the discrimination you might face in your community can have a significant impact on your mental health. On the other hand, healing might happen by (re)connecting with a specific community or be supported via traditions passed down in your family and/or culture.

If you would like to work with me, please fill out our confidential application with this link. I look forward to talking to you.
