Maya Hemachandra
Interim Development Director
Maya Hemachandra currently serves as Interim Development Director at Wellspring. She brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the role, with a focus on tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice in the Pacific Northwest. Her career includes leadership roles at several Wellspring partner organizations, such as Solid Ground, Treehouse, and United Way. In those roles, she raised millions of dollars in philanthropic and volunteer support to address housing insecurity, youth opportunity, and family stability.
Maya is the owner of Sambar Nonprofit Solutions, a consulting firm which helps nonprofits align their leadership approach and fundraising practices with their values. As an Interim leader, she has a strong track record of bringing support to team members, clarity to strategy, and continuity to processes during times of transition.
In addition to her leadership roles, Maya is a committed educator and thought leader. She serves as an instructor in nonprofit and fundraising management at the University of Washington and volunteers as a mentor to women of color in the nonprofit sector. She is widely recognized for her published research and speaking engagements that challenge nonprofit power dynamics and uplift community-centered approaches.
